■Opening Hours: 10:00 to 18:00 (Entry by 17:30)
 
※We are open from 10:00 to 19:30 (Entry by 19:00) until Tuesday, December 31, 2019.
※We will be closed on Wednesday, January 1, 2020.

Welcome to the Osaka Ukiyo-e Museum

In the eighteenth century(current Tokyo) it spread as popular culture which expressed the fashion and the topic.
The museum is three great masters of ukiyo-e including Hokusai Utamaro and Hiroshige works from the Edo period are exhibited. Artists draw with elaborate ideas the name is also unknow the sculptor and the print master worked in the Edo period now. Please enjoy the present of Edo period that their worked.

浮世絵師紹介

Katsushika Hokusai

Born in 1760 (Horeki-era 10) near Edo’s main sewer moat(current kamezawa sumida-ku Tokyo) . Hokusai announced a work over 30,000 by the time he closes his life at the age of ninety. In his later years he call himself a“art crazy old man“ devotion of a life time to enthusiast painting. There are“Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji (Fugaku Sanjurokkei)“ and“Hokusai Manga“ in the masterpiece. Landscapes of great nature paintings of bold composition people’s lives and social conditions. He left the work of various genres of the four seasons, such as depict flowers, and birds in natural settings.
In 1999 American magazine LIFE“100 people in the world who have left most important achievements in the Millennium“Hokusai the only Japanese ranked in.
It influences the painter Henri Riviere , composer Claude Debussy , etc... and it is still gaining fame all over the world.

Utagawa Hiroshige

Born in 1797 (Kansei-era ) the firefighter Ando family, also called Ando Hiroshige established by Edo shogunate.
1716~1736 (Kyouhou-era ) the political situation was stabilized in the Edo period and people’s travel become active. 1804~1830 (Bunka Bunsei-era ) He became a popular artist in the landscape paintings“Fifty-three Stations of Tokaido“ was announced on the bandwagon of the travel boom.
Hiroshige works are impressive with indigo color It is also called "Hiro Shige Blue" and "Japan Blue" and is loved.
Original composition and unique color representation It was popular as a 19th century "Japonism".
